Well I won’t make this story long. I’d just like to say I’m new on the BrokenOP team and will be discussing a broad range of topics. It will range from Video Games, to Operating Systems, to even what is happening in the news. So come and check back soon because I’ll have some exciting updates.

Punishing children

Posted on December 2, 2009 by James Newton1 Comment

This kid has the wrong idea.

Before people start reading this, I just want to define a few words, so people know what I’m saying for sure,

  1. “beating”, “beat” – I mean spanking, it just sounds better
  2. “tween” – kids between the ages of 10-15 (in this case)

Recently I’ve came to think of how some children and tweens are acting today, most are hardly bearable to be around, with the select few that do as told, and as I was told several times, and still hear every now and then, “children are meant to be seen, not heard”. I have one of the large portion of unbearable children as a little sister. Over the last few years, she has been horrible, treats my mother, and others, horribly, and there has been no way to control her. Recently after certain events we had police notify my mother that the only method of physical punishment she could use on my sister was a leather belt to the rear end. We were told she could not use her hand, because if she left a mark, it would be “child abuse”, and so on, and that if child abuse was ever claimed when she used a leather belt, they would say it was a mother punishing her child, and ignore it.

This started to make me think of how I was always told by grandparents and others how if they misbehaved they’d be beat with a switch (stick), or any other method that involved getting their rear tanned. I really don’t know if that was child abuse then too, but if it was, it didn’t seem to be a big deal like it is now. I’ve started to wonder how children and tweens would act if their punishment had been just like their parents (assuming their parents were raised right..). Taking my sister for example, leaving out random facts that lead up to her still being a tyrant at 11 years old, the belt scares her, till the whipping is over, and it changes nothing. Now, if she was beat with a switch for every time she disobeyed her mother, or popped in the mouth for talking back (which happens often), I doubt she’d be anything like she is now. But, now everything you do is child abuse. I was told just pushing her (to move out of the way), I could be charged with battery! This is how ridiculous this is now.

I’m probably not the only person to ever walk through a store, or go to someones house, and see a parents child disrespect them 90% of the time you’re present. I’m sure that most people who have seen that wouldn’t mind picking up a belt themselves and beat the tar out of them to make them learn a little respect.

In my opinion, children these days, should be beat, and not heard.

Hello world!

Posted on November 30, 2009 by Oscar SandovalNo Comments

This is the opinion based blog that I’ve been meaning to start for a while now. I know that there are quite a few out there, but hopefully we will be able to do this in a unique way, that will help us get a whole bunch of hits and what not.

If that doesn’t work, we can always give up, but until then, I’ll be writing on here at least one a week.
